As you probably remember, Nintendo announced new Pokémon functions in its E3 Nintendo Direct such as the new Pokemon-Amie system. To the surprise of many Pokémon fans, Nintendo announced the 18th power type, a power type super effective against the mighty dragons, called as the “Fairy” power type. This power type will be possessed by the new evolution of Eevee i.e. Sylveon and will also be in the hands of Marill, Gardevoir, Jigglypuff and many more. This is going to radically change power as this is the first power type powerful against the tough-as-nails dragons!
On 11th June 2013, a Pokémon developer conference took place at 6 pm PDT at E3 2013 following the E3 Nintendo Direct that featured the only series more popular than Pokémon, Mario. This event was open to the media only and was not streamed online like a Nintendo Direct. In this conference many new things regarding the upcoming Pokémon X and Y games were revealed.
In the Pokémon conference Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of the Pokémon Company, and Junichi Masuda, director at Game Freak announced new aspects of the game such as new forms of battle and a different type of encounter!
Also being a Pokémon conference, it would be incomplete without a Pokémon reveal! In this conference, 3 new type of Pokémon were revealed!
One is Clauncher, a crab-like Water Pokémon. It’s signature move is Crabhammer, a move in which he will crush his opponents with his claws. This move is more likely than other moves to hit a critical hit!
Another Pokémon is Skrelp, a water and poison type seahorse.
The 3rd one is Talonflame! A fire and flying type Pokémon that can reach amazing speeds! Check it out below:
A new battle feature introduced is Sky battles! In this, battles take place in the air (this was in the anime somewhere?) so only Flying type Pokémon or Pokémon with the levitate ability (Haunter comes to mind) can take part.
These battles begin by challenging trainers standing on high cliffs or other high places when encountered during your explorations! You can only challenge them if your party has atleast 1 Pokémon with the ability to fly.
Another new feature that has been added to battles is the horde encounter! These horde encounters are really tough and very different from what you have seen before! The previous game had the same number of Pokémon on both sides, be it a single battle, a dual battle or a triple battle. Now what we have is something much different where there uneven numbers on both sides! Don’t worry, the enemy has the advantage, not you.
During horde encounters, multiple opponent foes attack you while there is only one Pokémon on your side. These battles can go upto a maximum ratio of 5:1. You will find your Pokémon sinking really quick if you don’t have multiple foe targeting moves like surf.
Battle gameplay aside, the games Pokémon X and Y will introduce new ways to communicate with other players! There is a feature called as the PSS or the Player Search System!
This is basically an application in the bottom of the touch screen that lets you interact with streetpassed players.
The good thing about this feature is that if you do not get many streetpasses (I get none), you can turn up the range from the local wireless connection to the whole Internet. Seeing the influx of gamers this game is going to bring, we can safely say that there will be more than enough people to battle and trade with!
Here is a highlight video from the conference which sadly like a Nintendo Direct was not available to be streamed to the public:
I hope this was useful and helped you gain insight on Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, coming October 12th on Nintendo 3DS! If you didn’t know the last games were on Nintendo DS (Pokémon Black and White 2).
Are you going to purchase it? What do you think about these additions? Let me know below through your comments!
